Sunset Grill is a chain of restaurants that sport the "All Day Breakfast" tag line. A great idea especially when you come right out of the clubs and ready for a big meal or have an early shift at the call centre. What is not so good is when your waitstaff has no clue about their own menus and give you three different items until they get the meal right. This is what happened to me the other day at the 543 Yonge Street restaurant. The waitstaff (curly hair petite bespectacled lady) took my order of a simple Waffle Supreme (which meant having strawberries). She gave me an Omelette Supreme and then a Parfait before she got me the Waffles. This occured in a span of 40 minutes! She seems like she could not read her own menu and she complained that the cook had no clue of what she wrote. She made the mistake twice before she got it right, I don't think the cook was the problem especially since I could see the cook and he was asking for clarification and the waitstaff had no clue. She pointed on the menu which was in a different spot than my order. I knew there was a literacy issue right there. Another male waitstaff tried to assist but the order continued to be wrong and he got me some eggs which was not what I ordered at all!
I didn't leave because this was not only blog fodder but a research issue on many levels - customer service training, human resource hiring practices, management style, and communication strategies. There is a bigger problem than just an inaccurate order that needed to be addressed. Until they do so, I will be staying away from this restaurant lest I want to continue my research on this issue.
My rating? Definitely NOT WORLD CLASS and NEED to UPGRADE SOMETHING - anything in relation to training, literacy, hiring practices, management style.~ Richard
