Pleiades Theatre is proud to present Dying to Be Sick by Molière, translated by Adrienne Clarkson and John Van Burek in a co-production with Canada’s National Arts Centre (Ottawa). This will be the first Canadian translation and major Toronto production of Molière’s comic masterpiece. The play runs from October 12 to November 4 at the Theatre Centre.
An astonishing piece of theatre, Dying to Be Sick ranks among the greatest comedies of all time. Written in 1673, it was Molière’s final play, in which he died while playing the central character, Argan. At its heart, this raging satire about medicine is a very modern play about one man’s all-consuming obsession with himself and his own body. Convinced he is sick, Argan, will compromise his family, even his own health, to receive endless treatments from eager doctors.
Directed by Brendan Healy, Dying to Be Sick stars Hardee Lineham as Argan and features some of Toronto’s most accomplished actors including Karl Ang, Stéphanie Broschart, Victor Ertmanis, Rebecca Hodge, Miranda Jones, Dov Mickelson, Nikki Pascetta, Alex Poch-Goldin and Michelle Polak.
Sets: Teresa Przybylski; costumes: Dana Osborne; original music: Boyd McDonald; choreography: Claudia Moore; Stage Management: Tanya Greve.
