Hernando's Hideaway - Mexican

NotWorldClassbeans.jpg Beans beans weird looking beans... this is what we got when we were at Hernando's Hideaway (Mexican restaurant) on 545 Yonge the other evening. Unfortunately the dinner was nothing to write home about and Ed was saying that he was losing confidence in reasonably priced Mexican food in the city. If you don't pay quite a bit like at Milagro, then having good Mexican food in the single to mid $ range becomes disappointing. Chowhound has been having a discussion on this as well.

fajita.jpgOverall rating? Something needs to be upgraded. The service was mediocre. Seems like our waiter came directly from a ski lodge and needed to take a nap first. He was not as consistent in performance as we wanted him to. A lady gave us drinks and stale chips with salsa tasting like its been sitting there for hours. Waiter comes in 15 minutes later and drinks didn't arrive until another 15 minutes. There were only 4 tables filled in this almost 50 table seating restaurant. They seem to be busy watching tv at the bar instead. No additional napkins while we were dripping eating this fajita even after two requests. Water was not provided even when requested 10 minutes prior. Bathroom smelled ok but would be better if there were paper towels available.Food was tepid when it should be hot or at least very warm to the touch - nope it wasn't. So this was a disappointing dinner.
