You says Manhattan? I say Jersey City! Ok that's the conversation Edward and I had this morning because we were figuring out a more reasonable way to get to a hotel while visiting our NYC. Yup! It's ours. [ha!]
So what to do? Where to go? Where to eat? These were the next questions if we're staying in Jersey instead of NYC. Not suprising, there were lots of dining, hotels, and entertainment options. In fact, there are museums with discounts that we've not been to in Jersey. What happens it seems is that when one is in NYC, that's the only thing and only place and the neigbouring states get overshadowed. Having lived in NYC, we always look for the next thing and the next place to go. We've seen all the touristy stuff in NYC and we've visited the out-of-the-way environs, so why not stay in Jersey and see NYC from a different perspective?!
If you're thinking of doing the same thing and staying in Jersey, there are lots of transportation options to get to NYC. We like the Ferry best because you can see the NYC skyline and its gorgeous! If you need maps, click here for Jersey and here for NYC subway. And to make your travel between the two states less stressful - use HopStop. We love this service. Wish we have this in Toronto because that service would definitely make the public transportation here World Class. Right now? There could be improvements.
